Hi! I’m Melissa.
I’ve spent my career soaking up the fashion, sewing and wedding industries. I’m a master tailor, a business leader and a Bravo obsessor. I’ve seen it all and done it all... and now, like Bethanny from RHONY, we are gonna “mention it all.”
I’ve spoken at universities, run goal-crushing groups for small business owners, put together international sewing conferences, won multiple business grants, styled photoshoots for everything from athleisure to handbags and I split wedding dresses in two on a regular basis… there isn’t much I haven’t done.

I have been sewing for over 25 years...
...ever since my great-grandmother started showing me how to read patterns as a child. I attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC where I received degrees in Tailoring and Ready-to-Wear. My professional career includes work with brands such as Izod, Victor de Souza and Dennis Basso. I was also a Visual Manager for Anthropologie, White House Black Market and DKNY.
I founded deMelis Atelier in 2018 after ‘falling’ into the wedding and bridal industry—more on that in the podcast. In 2021 we became the first alterations business to be invited to become a member of The Bridal Council. We have also been featured in various publications like The Knot and The New York Times.
In addition to providing wedding gown alterations to hundreds of brides around New England each year, I also work closely with Beth Chapman Styling to provide brides with Day-of-Wedding Dressing Services and Concierge Alterations.
When I’m not taking care of brides and nearlyweds, you’ll find me bringing together seamstresses and other sewing professionals worldwide through Stitched Collective—a group I founded in 2019 to foster connection, education, and awareness and further the growth of the sewing trades.
