Wear the undergarments you plan to wear on your wedding day to get an accurate fit. This includes your bra, shapewear, and any other supportive garments that will affect how your dress sits. Not quite sure what to wear? Your seamstress can make recommendations specific to your gown and desired silhouette.
Why is this important? Simple—your shoes impact the length of your gown. Whether you’re wearing stilettos or ballet flats, having the actual shoes ensures your hem is adjusted to perfection.
Your gown will look different at each of your fittings and each appointment gets you closer to the beautiful end result. Be sure to listen to your tailor’s recommendations—they’ve worked with hundreds of dresses and know what tweaks will enhance the fit and comfort while making sure you have proper support as well.
It can be tempting to bring everyone to your fittings, but too many opinions can be overwhelming. Bringing just one or two trusted people can make the experience more focused and enjoyable.
If anything feels off—whether it’s too tight, too loose, or uncomfortable in any way—don’t hesitate to speak up. The fitting is the time to address any concerns, not later when alterations become more complicated.
With these tips in mind, you’ll walk into your first fitting confident and ready to embrace your dream dress!
