When working with your seamstress or bridal boutique, don’t just give them your wedding date—make sure to also share your travel plans. This is especially important for coordinating final fittings, ensuring your dress is ready for pickup, and avoiding any last-minute stress. Vendors thrive on timelines, so keeping them informed about your travel schedule ensures everything goes smoothly.
Your dress deserves VIP treatment, and yes these do exist. When booking your flight, call the airline and ask if they have a captain’s closet or another space to safely store your gown. Most airlines are accommodating, especially when they hear it’s your wedding dress. This avoids the stress of trying to fit your gown into overhead bins or risking loss or damage in checked luggage.
Not all garment bags are created equal, and for a wedding dress, you’ll need something sturdy and travel-friendly. The Wally Bag is a favorite amongst brides and nearlyweds and their vendors alike. It’s durable, protective, and designed with features to make your travel easier, including extra pockets for shoes and accessories. Plus, it folds down into a compact carry-on size, so you can keep your dress with you at all times. Check out the Wally Bag here!
Even with the best garment bag, a little wrinkling is inevitable. Prepare ahead by researching options for steaming or pressing your dress at your destination. Many hotels offer steaming services, or you can find a local tailor to assist. If you prefer to handle it yourself, we love the Conair travel steamer. Compact yet powerful, it has multiple settings for different fabrics and attachments to protect delicate materials or create a crisp pant crease. It even doubles as a mini iron for those finishing touches. Check it out here.
